ADHD
ADHD is an anxiety disorder that effects many homes across the world. A child’s inability to focus in school can set them back which can have a tremendous impact on their mental health and growth. ADHD is a disorder that can be easily treated. If your child is having trouble focusing in school or seems to get easily distracted, he or she may be suffering from ADHD. There are tests that can be taken to identify whether or not your child is suffering from this disorder.
ANXIETY DISORDERS
Anxiety is the most common mental health disorder. Most disorders that are considered “mental health disorders” are anxiety-related. OCD, Bipolar, Panic Disorders, and many other mental health issues are typically developed from anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling of nervousness or uneasiness about an uncertain outcome or event. It can come with feelings of eagerness and desire, as well as, fear and angst. Anxiety is a leading cause of stress, weight gain, and depression. If you are having feelings of anxiety, seeking treatment is the first step.
BIPOLAR
DISORDER
Bipolar Disorder, formerly known as manic depression, is a mental health disorder which increases emotions and causes dramatic mood swings which range from depression (low) to mania or hypomania (high). Mood shifts or swings can occur rarely or frequently depending on the individual. Like many anxiety disorders, no one knows the exact cause. However, many believe genetics and environment play the biggest role in the development of a bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is lifelong, but mood swings can be controlled with treatment plans.
DEPRESSION
Depression is a mental health disorder in which a person becomes excessively sad or unhappy for extended periods of time. Usually, a depression forms after a traumatic loss or accident. Depression is not genetic, however, genetic chemical imbalances can cause one to become more susceptible to depression. Depression can often be one of the easier conditions to treat so if you or someone you know is suffering from depression, then treatment should be started right away.
OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD, is one of the most common anxiety disorders. OCD causes one to attempt to manage their fears, thoughts, and worries through sets of small rituals. OCD can cause disturbing images and thoughts that lead to increased anxiety. Although no one knows the exact cause, most experts believe a combination of brain abnormalities, genetics, and a person’s environment lead to OCD. People suffering from OCD often have a fixation on cleanliness, with a strong dislike for germs. They tend to be very neat, wanting things in specific order. Harsher symptoms can excessive touching and counting, as well as, thoughts of violence and disturbing sexual acts. A variety of treatments can be drafted based on the person and their level of mental discomfort
PANIC DISORDER
You may have a panic disorder if you have had repeated and unexpected panic attacks. If you are experiencing a sense of fear when there should be no reason for fear, then you may have a panic disorder. Panic disorders are very common and may have a genetic link. They tend to run in families and generally start in teen years or early adult years. Symptoms of panic disorders range from sweating and dizziness to numbness and shortness of breath. Panic orders can be treated so seeking help is highly recommended.
POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
If you are having trouble dealing with an event or traumatic situation, then you may have posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD. Frequent cases of PTSD are found in those who have served in the military, been involved in a car crash or violent crime, or have been raped or abused. It is typical to experience trauma or stress immediately following a traumatic or stressful experience, however, some find it more difficult to recover mentally from these events. When someone has PTSD, they continue to experience the trauma through dreams and flashbacks. Treatment is available to help those with PTSD.
PSYCHOSIS
Psychosis is a mental disorder in which one loses contact with reality due to a person’s thoughts and emotions becoming impaired. Psychosis is one of the more serious mental disorders and can sometimes lead to having a person fully committed or hospitalized. It is rare to find cases of psychosis in children. It is someones found in teens but it generally doesn’t develop in anyone until adult years. Although the symptoms of psychosis are hard and can be life altering, there is treatment available.
